Solutions Focus Behaviour Management
How to develop strategies to change the behaviour of challenging pupils

A one-day conference led by Dr Alan Jones

Learn about the ‘solutions focus’ approach, a proactive way of working with pupils individually or in small groups to greatly improve their behaviour
Examine specific tools and techniques that have been effective in changing pupil behaviour and can be easily implemented in schools
Extend your thinking and improve your understanding of pupil behaviour, anger management and behavioural change

Dr Alan Jones has 22 years of teaching experience in London and Cornwall across a range of subjects. He is an inspirational trainer who is able to translate his extensive theoretical knowledge into effective, practical classroom strategies. Alan works as a consultant in the fields of behaviour management and motivation, performance coaching, emotional intelligence, thinking skills and leadership within schools, but he also now provides consultancy to business. He is the author of many books and papers on education, was dissertation tutor to M.Ed students and has carried out research on behalf of the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth. Alan is Lead Trainer for the Institute of Neuro-linguistic Programming, an accredited ‘index 360’ performance coach and an accredited Edward de Bono Consultant. He has a particular interest in strategies that can help young people whose challenging behaviour is a serious obstacle to achievement and whose behaviour is impacting on the wellbeing of other pupils and staff.

The course is for staff in schools who want to develop strategies to improve the behaviour of pupils by working with them individually or in small groups. Although the course will touch on classroom behaviour management it is instead about working with and changing the behaviour of those individuals who are causing persistent problems.

It will cover the key ideas that underpin the ‘solutions focus’ approach and provide a range of practical ideas and techniques including coaching and mentoring. The day will examine how such techniques can link with and enhance existing methods and systems. It will challenge your thinking and extend your understanding of this important subject so that participants have the knowledge and tools to set up an effective behaviour intervention programme in schools and units.
